1990 GMC Sierra Won’t Move When In Drive Or Reverse
Truck has been fine until the temps dropped from
60 degrees nightly to 37-39 degrees nightly which
happened from one night to the next in one 24hr.
timespan. Next thing I know, I wake up and it’s time
to go so I start the truck and I shift into drive (I park
a$$ toward house) and it wants to move as I can
feel the pull but it is acting like the brakes are frozen
shut. Also happens in reverse. After about 10
minutes it’ll move like normal. Even today I used the
water hose to spray the rear and front brakes
directly from under the truck but it took about the
same, approximate 10 minutes for the truck to
move. When I shift into gear, the rpms are normal.
They don’t wind way up but just sounds like they
should sound when pulling away from a stop. Like I
said, you can feel the pull but something won’t
release. It’s like trying to pull out a living palm tree
that is 60 feet tall. All fluid levels are good no leaks
except the drip from trans line. After that initial
break free, it runs like normal the rest of the day. It’s
a 5.7 Automatic 2WD. It has a new crate motor with
about 4k miles. Flywheel was replaced in August
with complete flush and fill with new fluid and trans
has a slight drip in the one of the lines going into
the tranny but not enough to hurt anything but my
wife’s feelings because of a few spots on the
driveway. Brakes were replaced in September and
brake booster was replaced in August along with
flush and fill with new fluid. Also, radiator was
replaced in the beginning of October also flush and
fill.
