Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 94 GMC Sierra C 1500  ext cab - 8 cylinder currently sitting at London Drugs in the town I live in. Went in to the store for 10 min came out and wouldn't start, no warning of problems before this.  Lights work (nice & bright)  gages on dash work but clock coesn't. Can turn key on but engine doesn't roll over.....not even a click. Tried several times, boost didn't work either. Any ideas would be helpful! Thinking starter motor. I live on the rainy west coast and it has been really wet. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks El

I replaced my starter on the same truck and there was no warning , no click ,just died , not too bad a job , two starter bolts , two wires on the starter , get it loose and let it sit on the exhaust then you can reach the wire connections , , pull the batt - cable of course and clean the mating surfaces for a good ground

So....next question. 2 models of starter motor for 94 c1500 gmc. I know they are replacing older bigger one with the new one.....apparently interchangeable. If my truck has the newer model can it be replaced with older bigger starter motor. Only 2 parts companies close to town.....NAPA is quoting 108.00 for old style without core (will refund 18.00 when I return core). Amazing how much you have to know. Thanks Ellen

I would but have no way to get there. I read on-line that older model starter could be replaced by newer but wasn't sure if it could be done in reverse.

Hi beatup chevy, really appreciate your help today. My truck is fixed and I have it back. Decided to let mechanic do it as weather was miserable and he had a lift. Truck had older model of starter for $ 100 and mechanic was $ 100 so guess I can't complain, Again, thank you for your time and expertise....instilled confidence. Regards El

Starter. Thank you Still have my old girl....these trucks just don't quit. Next is exhaust system 4 or 500 dollars. Then a tune-up $350 to $ 400.

Yup changed ignition today still nothing. Doing starter tomorrow. These old trucks are awesome.
