First thing to do ,is smell tranny fluid,if it smells, burn,t then yes you will need a rebuild,if fluid is red and has no burnt smell, you may can just change the filter in tranny, but usually when they slip like this you have burned bands in the tranny and can smell it.That said you can get a trans, rebuild ,for about 750-1000,all depend,s on shop, but if they do total job,you could could be as much as 1500.
