Truck will not start unless Jumped.

Asked by Urbex804 Sep 14, 2016 at 05:55 AM about the 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 SLE Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This is a problem that has been driving me
up a wall, and I cannot for the life of me,
Figure it out. '98 GMC Sierra with the 305
5.0 stock motor. The truck will only start if I
have it hooked up to jumper cables, and it
gets a jump. Will run fine, but as soon as i
turn it off, and try to crank it again, without
the cables, its dead. Battery is brand new,
alternator passed tests, and starter is new
as well.

it could have bad connections from the battery to the starter which is draining current- that fuel injected engine needs a lot of battery power to get it to crank and fire- not like the old analog engines which would fire up even with a low battery- also, make SURE the battery and alternator are good- and that the starter is good and not drawing too much current- even brand new batteries have been known to have dead cells- good luck
