98 k1500 brake light problem

Asked by Jay Jan 29, 2020 at 07:20 AM about the 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 K1500 SLT 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed the brake booster out on my truck a few
days ago and the brake work well now but brake
lights are non existent. I found a Chinese looking
wire harness hanging under my dash after I got the
booster done that I never noticed loose before.
They run to multiple things under the dash, a relay
and tie in to some other wires under the dash all
factory looking except for the wire harness. Has 2
plugs and a fuse built in. Any help to getting my
brake lights back on would be greatly appreciated.
I have turn signals and running lights still. Bulbs
are good, fuses are good, brake switch seems
good but unsure how to actually test it.

Did a shop do the work? Have them review their handiwork, they may have left a harness unplugged. If you did the work then I can only suggest you look under the dash to see where this plugged in, as well as check your brake pedal position switch. (That's a switch on the brake pedal lever arm that triggers the lights when the pedal is depressed, if it gets nudged out of alignment with the lever arm the brake lights won't come on.)
