Check fuel pressure at fuel rail. Auto zone will loan you what you need to check it properly. Did you by chance spray any fuel or either into the throttle body while trouble shooting why it would not start? If so you probably will need new spider injectors and upper intake. If a vortec backfires thru intake it's over for the spider injectors and most times the intake to.

gas gauge E and low fuel light on! this reads gas tank not fuel pump, not air flow, not tire pressure - IT READS GAS IN THE TANK! you ain't got any.

Not having any -- leads to Running out of fuel. Which will destroy a fuel pump.

No i added 5 more gallons to the tank that already had a quarter before it went dead.i'm thinking computer. or timing chain, or security system,or crankshaft sensor,or switch hub on colum.any way to narrow this down ? Live way back in the woods . obwiz5 on labtop still no connect.

The scanner is elmscan5. used it to read codes on same truck last year, but now says no connection.does this indicate the on-board computer is fryed?

can't help on scanner question because I read all codes and data inputs/outputs on my dash,(1994 DeVilles are great) only thing I can say is that my system would say "no data" if it wasn't able to read. Anyone able to help this guy about what "no connection" means on his scanner brand?
