04 gmc Sierra 1500

Whenever I drive my truck it's fine but I come to a stop light
or in stop and go traffic my temp gauge drops and go back
to normal then gets worse after a few seconds itll drop all
the way down and try to turn off but if I start driving it's fine
any ideas?
