Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck was working perfectly fine last night and this morning on my way to
work, I noticed while trying to reverse it was making whining noises and didn't
have much power but, putting the truck into drive, it works fine and no noise at
all. I barely have any power when in reverse, what can be causing this issue
all of a sudden?

I believe revers has gone out, take it to a trany shop for proper diagnosis.

I was informed it does not always have to be a trany replacement and could be some sort of link gear to the reverse trany that went or a cable line, does that make sense? I will def have a shop take a better look at it. Just over the phone from one shop, without even diagnosis they are saying my whole trany needs to be replace and going to cost me around $2,500.00....insane and not where I plan to take my vehicle if they are just guessing and assuming off the bat that that's the issue.

In the area that I live in it would be $1800 for a trany rebuild, taking it out and re-installing it. But in those years trany there is a known issue with them, and I think you'll find that it is going to need rebuilding.

Is it throwing a Check engine light? There are solenoids in the pan at the rear of the pan(inside it) that control the shifts I'd go through that route. Also when you pull the pan is there metal shavings in the fluid or do you smell burnt fluid? That would be first if you think it's shot there are rebuilders that will guarntee it for 3-500$ range you just have to pull it.
