Question type: General
I have an extended cab short bed if that matters. I need to know how much I can tow, does it matter if it is hitch or 5th wheel? I've looked for some list online but can't find anything that goes this far back...

I'm not sure exactly for your year, any dealer can tell you. The 2002 with towing package is rated at GVWR 22000# for truck and trailer. See if your hitch has a rating on it. If it's a factory hitch it will have at least a 10000# rating It does matter if you use the bumper or bed for the hitch. the bumper location is limited to a few hundred pounds of tongue weight (or down force)while the bed hitch is located forward of the rear wheels so the weight is distributed to all four wheels so the rating will be much higher.
there should be something on the bumper where it dips in for the towing ball where the lic plate it . and it will say max loads.
the numbers on the bumper relate to what the hitch itself can hold, not the vehicle specs. it matters buy a few thousand pound weather its a 5th wheel or bumper hitch, it doesn't very too much between a fith wheel and a goose neck. I would say you can tow around 10 thousand pounds, you might be able to do more but its alot of strain on that 5.4L engine.
Depends on the level of tow package that is installed on your truck........... and fifth wheel you just need to make sure you stay inder you trucks gross weight and MAKE SURE YOU DONT RIDE THE OVERLOAD SPRINGS........
