Audi A4 started shaking

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2002 Audi A4 1.8 manual transmission with 135,000 miles. Everything has been working great, no service lights, but a day ago it started shaking, slightly shaking, and when I opened the hood I heard a light rattle sound. Any idea what can this be?

First check your oil level. It could be a lifter collapsing slightly causing the cylinder valve to open and close improperly. Is it a tapping noise?
Yes, is like a tapping noise.

Do you have an oil gauge or oil light? And is your oil level fine? And how dirty is your oil?
I'm taking the car for an oil change tomorrow. The oil light is not on but I think is time to change it.

Thats a great start.. With the amount of mileage on the vehicle you may want to stop by your local auto parts store and pick up an oil additive that will help noisy lifters. Be sure you give it to the place where you will have your oil changed. Have them add it to your fresh oil. Hope I was helpful. By the way, where are you writing from? John.
From Long Island. Thanks so much for your help John!

If you check enging light is on.... More than likely it is the COILS Could also be fuel pump related. Start with the ignition coils.
Is that tapping sound coming from right next to the air box?
you need to be very sure its not, you can get two tapping sounds one can be from your head and you will know that one right away, and the other will be coming from your n95 valve, it will sound like it tapping because its not closing all the way. ( the n95 is your wastegate control on the car)
You can have a tapping sound coming from the evap valve. This is normal, if you changed your oil and the sound persist it can also be the belt tensioner, the sprack on the alternator or the timing belt tensioner. With this mileage your supposed to have already changed the timing belt, pulleys and tensioner. There is a hydraulic bottle that when damaged looses pressure and produces a tapping sound. Hope this helps you
