Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have an Audi A4 Quattro with automatic transmission and it will not shift
out of parking, the traction control light stays on when i turn the car on, the
brakes seem very loose and also the light by the gear is always off. Do you
maybe know what the problem might be? If anybody can give me some
help i would really appreciate that. I need to fix this problem as soon as
possible because i need my car to go to collage!

If i am reading this right, the car wont come out of park, check the neutral safety switch,it releases the shifter when you mash the break pedal.
First thank you very much for taking your time to answer my question. And that seems about the right solution of the problem that i am having. Is the neutral safety switch what allows the gear to move once you hit the brakes? if yes then that might be the problem. And do you have any idea where that switch might be?
Yes,and give me a few minutes to search the car for and answer.
It is located on the transmission, here is a photo of one, click to up size it.
My Saab has a bypass button next to the gear shifter. Put a small screwdriver in the hole & press down to release the gear shifter. The traction control and the soft brakes might be tied together, but not sure if it would have anything to do with a bad neutral safety switch.
Thank you very very much guys. Really appreciate your help and time. I will try to figure it out tomorrow as soon as sun comes out and ill get back to you guys. but thanks again. now at least i have an idea where to get started :)
Try number 13 fuse I'm having the same problem but mine blow every time I hit the brake
Hello Donald, im having the same issue on my Audi. So what ended being the fix in yours? Email me to joseescobar3506.je@gmail.com
My fix was simple I looked in the fuse panel found a loose fuse 10amp that fell out and won't go back in. Put a brand new one in, and car shifts fine....I was a former mechanic but worked on domestic vehicles mostly. Save myself some money because I thought why all of a sudden would the audi not shift into gear when the trans is fine and never did this before.
