Does the 2002 Audi A6 3.0 have a oil level sensor?
I was driving my 2002 Audi A6 today leaving home and after going about a mile the oil
signal starting flashing. I drove another 5 miles to a shop to have the oil checked and I
had about 2 quarts added. The oil signal went off and the car appeared to be OK.
However, the signal started flashing again and I went to return to the shop but after
about a half mile the car just cut out. I tried to start it and the battery started to die so I
just shut it off and called a tow truck. My question is this. Is there an oil level sensor in
the car which would cause it to cut out before any serious engine problem could arise?
yes there is, as it relates to oil pressure...pressure drops down and the light comes on....you add oil....no damage occurs...I could research the part if you want to replace the oil pressure sender...would be not a thing~
2002, you should be on your second battery by now...this may be the cause of your no-start condition~
if you can pinpoint the source of the leak....could be as simple as an improper oil filter....or the kid at jiffy lube accidentally left the old seal on and put the new gasket on as well....creatin' the leak~
else there is always warm the engine....spray with foamy engine brite...spray it off....let dry and park on cardboard to find the source~
perhaps we have an oil-pressure driven component....suspect this is the case...the engine has an instinct for self-preservation~

You have an oil level sender in the bottom of the crankcase but the light should come on yellow, if it's coming red it is a pressure problem you can change the pressure sensor just to check if the problem persists you need to check the oil pump pressure. It is common when long periods of oil change have been made that you get damage on the pump, that is why it is better to change oil regularly
