Why 93 Grand Cherokee Laredos?

Asked by andrwet Feb 13, 2007 at 09:17 PM about the 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: General

Hi, I just recovered my 93 Grand Cherokee Laredo after it was stolen two weeks ago. I come to find that the 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is the 9th most popular car to be stolen in Washington state. It also seems to be very popular item elsewhere too. Can you tell me what makes the 93 such a popular item for theft? Thanks,
Andy

Hello, This is an excellent question. For those not aware of these links, here are the most stolen cars: http://www.statefarm.com/learning/be_safe/road/learning_besafe_onroad_cartheft1.asp Most of these cars are older; while there is no hard-and-fast reason why these particular cars are more stolen than others, most experts theorize that these cars are stolen because they have parts that are interchangeable with a number of other vehicles. In addition, cars that are stolen for joyriding and then ditched are not included in these statistics, which may account for the lack of newer, flashier cars. I hope they catch the theif(ves)! 1 - This is the BIGGEST reason, IMO... They are easy to break into and easy to start without a key. Great for joyriding AND for theft for parts resale. 2 - The body style had a rather long run (93-98, I believe) so there are many of them out there (body parts interchange). 3 - There are MANY other major parts that interchange with an even broader year range for other Jeep models. (I-6 engine, auto transmission, transfer cases, axles).
