1994 grand cherokee larado

Asked by bonnie Jul 16, 2024 at 11:39 PM about the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 94 Larado. Sometimes it runs perfectly. Recently I started it, ran fine
for 25 miles, cut it off to have breakfast with my husband. Started it, idled
rough and shut off at a red light. It cranked but wouldnt start, so i cycled the
key several times and it finally started, the check engine light that has always
been on, was off and it ran fine afterwards. Now several days later it runs ok
idles rough sometimes and the engine light back on but doesnt really tell
anything.
Also sometimes looses power until you back out of throttle and back into it.
Fuel pump has been replaced twice hasnt changed anything. Other times it
may run for 6 months or more without any issues.
We did replace the fuel filter once and cleaned the throttle body helped for a
bit. Any suggestions?

Old OBD 1 system, and it’s a Jeep, so it could be anything. Relays, wiring, ECM, sensors. You need an old tech that knows the system, forget the dealer, they know nothing about these anymore. My experience with these old ones if the codes go no where is to replace the crank sensor, reset the computer and drive it and just see what happens.
