blower motor intermittent

Asked by steve Jul 03, 2019 at 06:29 PM about the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car came from parents in AZ and it hadn't sen rain in years. In oregon first rain
of year water leaked (not sure from where). Also had a mouse in the blower
(likely source of problem)

Problem: One of the blowers would work intermittently and sometimes while
ignition was turned off. Battery would drain. Now blower won't turn on at all.

After investigation, I found the black (ground?) wire to the ATC blower controller had corrosion. I wiggled it and powder came out and it worked again. Upon closer inspection, I saw discoloration from heat. I believe this controller and harness need to be replaced. (not bad for just an average "Joe" who didn't grow up around car mechanics). Controller has a part # and I was able to find a used one with attached harness for 1/2 price of new. I don't like the idea of a used part, but can't find a harness ANYWHERE, and this solution covers that ad possibly the controller as well for just 1/2 price.
