My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 5.2L Transmission Issues

Asked by Michael Jan 25, 2014 at 07:15 PM about the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 5.2L recently started experiencing problems with the transmission. I had to play with the shift to get it just right to back up at what I would call 20% of it's power. Then when I started driving it I noticed it wouldn't automatically shift out of 1st gear. Should I try adding transmission fluid or do I have a bigger problem on my hands?

If it is full when engine is hot do not add any. You need to have it checked by a mechanic if it is full.

If it is not shifting, Its in LIMP IN. This makes it so you can at least get it to move, Now you need to pull codes. There are several things that cause it to go into limp in. Bad sensor fuse, relay, open circuit, ect. So next step is to read codes. Hope this helps....
