What engines work in a 1999 grand Cherokee with a 4.7

You could try a 4.7, I hear those work pretty good in place of 4.7s.
Actually Ken you are telling it the way it is. The days of swapping engines around willy-nilly were over in the 70's.
Too true, everything today is very specific to the factory installed drivetrain, between all the electronics/computer, plumbing, and fitment, swapping out to a different size motor goes way beyond swapping out just a motor. Not that it can't be done, just gets more involved and expensive.
KenF is correct. Way to much involved in an engine swap other than what was originally put in your Jeep. The 4.7 is prone to early engine failure if your oil changes are not met with frequency. Change your oil every 3,000 miles no matter what. Most failures are valve train, or engine overheating related.
