What motors are compatible with the 2000 Jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7 v8?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My engine blew in my 2000 jeep grand Cherokee limited 4.7 v8. I took it to a mechanic and he put a motor from a 2001 dodge Durango in it. Also a 4.7 v8, but my jeep will not start and the mechanic just went out of business and gave my car back. Can anyone tell me if the 2001 motor is even compatible with my 2000 jeep. some of the info I read says 99-00 only can be interchanged, others say 99-04. Thanks!

Check the timing. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Fuel pressure should be 49 psi. You may want to take down your VIN # and cross check it with the dealer. I read that they introduced the 4.7 HO engine in 2001 for Jeep, but they put some of them on the 2000's as well. See if your old engine was a straight 4.7 or the 4.7 HO (High Output).
I know this post is old but the same happened to me i put a 04 durango engine on my 2000 jeep grand Cherokee and the same thing happened i couldn't figure it out. The ecu gave me a code wich was apparently the cam sensor but i check the sensor and it was fine checked the crank sensor same thing checked the compression 180 psi left head 170 right head, it was fine , fule pressure 60 psi it was fine plus i checked the timing chains alot of times and nothing, i had spark as well so then i i took a look at my old engine and i notice that the right cam sproket striker wheel patern was different and suddenly it made sense. the striker wheels are completely different but the sprokes are the same 30 teeth so i replace the right cam sproket and the wheel located inside the crank case the one bolted on the crankshaft unfortunately ull have to remove the crankshaft in order to replace that wheel . after i did all that car started right away
It is the tone wheel which triggers the crank position sensor. Dodge has 24 tooth tone wheel and Jeep motors have 16 tooth. The only way you can fix it is pull the crankshaft the tone wheel only access is this way.
I have a2002 ram with a 4.7 trying to put 4.7HO from a jeep runs but missfires what do i need to do to crossover to the 4.7HO both have 16 teeth reluctor wheels on the crankshaftdo i have to change the ecm
To answe a question from above the cam shafts r different on 4.7 and 4.7HO i dont know about the crank lobe psition oncams r different im not shure but i think ecm and wireing to if anyone needs 4.7HO i will trade mine for ur regular 4.7 in good condition
How to put a4.7 HO on 2002 ram with a 4.7From a 2004 grand chrokee 4.7?

the 4.7 ho has two knock sensors located under the intake that the non ho wiring harness doesnt have plugs for so it will never run right without complete wiring harness and ecm swap for the ho. thanks for the info on the tone wheel. sure fix on my fresh rebuilt 4.7 bored .20 over. had to pull the crankshaft and swap tone wheel and she fired right up
I have a 04 WJ Laredo 4.7l. I’m looking at 3 options to achieve 300+whp. One option is swapping in 2008 4.7HO because in stock form 305hp with forged internals. And turbo it. I was unaware of knock sensors. I obviously will be having a custom tune done. Can the knock sensors be eliminated this way? Or run stand alone pcm/ecu or whatever runs those sensors? Or scratch that option and LS swap since it’s actually really straightforward and motor mounts are made by a reputable company. Thanks in advance
Or can do 5.7/6.1/6.4 swap that bolts directly to transmission but slot of custom work with mounts and exhaust and wiring

Not sure about stand alone pcm. I'm under the assumption that you can do the H/O swap if you changed the intire engine wiring harness which is pretty simple. The LS swap is alot of custom work but I guess it all has to do with what kind of $ you are willing to spend. I'm a diehard old school chevy motorhead so if $ wasnt an issue I would drop a 383 stroker and puta whole new heavy duty suspension and drivetrian behind it. But as for any other motor swap it stands the same that complete wiring harness and pcm must stay with the engine you are wanting to run
