2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cuts Off When Slowing Down - Please Help!!!

Asked by libbis84 Jul 03, 2015 at 06:27 PM about the 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 4.7L 4WD keeps cutting off when slowing down after cranking and driving. It began to run hot so I stopped the car and had it towed to my house. A friend replaced the water pump, thermostat, upper radiator hose and complete set of spark plugs. After cranking the Jeep has a very rough and erratic sounding idle and cuts off completely when slowing down at a stop sign or in traffic. Two people have told me it is not the head gasket but I am at a loss as to where to go from here. Thanks for any help!
