I need to locate an engine for a 2004 cherokee laredo its a limited edition, eight cylinder, if someone could please point me in the right direction, Thanks:)

The thing is, I don't trust buying a car part from those places, not being a mechanic myself how would I know if I'm being ripped off. I have a mechanic that suggested I look for one on my own stating they are unable to locate anything under $2400 and that was only at the one place they said actually carried it. Otherwise they stated it was impossible for them locate anything else.
