loud clicking at startup equals rpm, then goes away

Asked by scwoodsman Dec 22, 2014 at 10:38 PM about the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

loud clicking at startup related to rpm. Sound goes away after several minutes. Repeats
with less noise after second start after 10 minute trip. Could it be a leaky check valve in
oil pump? It is not exhaust related. Continous belt is not dried, cracked or checked.
Ambient temp is in 50's.
