2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee dies at a stop
sign shortly after starting if the vehicle sat for
a 6-8 hours before this. There is code P0406
on it so is it possibly the EFR valve just needs
replaced? Shop does not think so. I am not
very experienced but it seems like my shop is
at as much of a loss as myself. We also
cleaned the throttle body yesterday so that is
not it.

The picture is for that code. I can't say that replacing that assembly will fix the problem. I'd want to check wiring circuits for connector. I have some more testing info if your interested?
The problem is this code has been there for 2 or 3 months and it just started stalling this week. So is it really from this or a coincidence? Could it possibly be idle air control valve? It didn’t throw a code for that though. After cleaning the throttle body it kills a lot smoother if that makes any sense. Before it would kind of shake before stalling at stop, and now the Rpms just hit about 500 and the needle quickly drops to 0 after that and then the engine is off.
The basics for problems at idle, check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum leak. Checking and cleaning anything that has to do with idle air system is a good idea. How long since a tune-up? I did search for TSBs concerning idle speed control, didn't see anything.
Define tune-up? I bought this vehicle in March, I have not done anything specific since then. So probably not awhile.
With unknown vehicle, I usually change the engine oil and filter. Maybe the spark plugs and plug wires. Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Check and change filters. If inline fuel filter, make sure no pressure on the system before taking any lines loose. Use a scanner that shows live engine data, see if anything catches your attention. It may have freeze frame data, shows you what the engine was doing when it died.
Thanks for your help. Replaced egr valve, that made the code go away. Stalling issue was still there. A couple other forums mentioned the tranny fluid being even slightly low on these vehicles can make them stall. I just had the transmission filter replaced (like two days at most before this started happening), check the fluid today, about a pint low, topped it off this morning so we will see how if that cures the problem on my way to work tonight.
Update: after topping off the transmission fluid, I have driven it three times after having it sit for a period longer than 6 hours and have not had it stall out. Seems to be that the low transmission fluid was the culprit. Hopefully someone else finds this thread useful and finds it before they put 200 plus dollars into it when it was something so simple.
