My Audi A4 Quattro won't start intermittently.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently purchased a 98 Audi A4 Quattro with the 2.8 litre V6 engine and
automatic transmission.  Sometimes the engine will not start.  All the
indicators in the instrument panel cluster light up when the ignition switch is
turned on and to start position.  The engine does not rotate.  It may start the
next time I try or it may take several attempts before it will start.  When the
ignition switch is turned to the start position, it is possible to hear a faint
clicking or chatter, possibly a stuck relay?  Any suggestions from others more
experienced with this model?

biga43211: You hit the nail on the head. Every time I want to start the car, I put the xmission in neutral. It starts every time. Thank you!
