when i turn the ac off and turn it back on it blows hot air the compresser does not come on

It could be moisture in the lines and causing the accumulator to freeze. take it to a professional as your car is old enough to have the R12 refridgerent and is illegal to let it out in the air

I must agree with Mr Evolution, the R-12 should not be released without capturing it properly. Not only is it the law, and I am by no means an environment crusader, tree-hugger but the stuff really is bad and that law is in place for a reason
