01 Lincoln town car weak air flow.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I just got this car 5 months ago in cooler weather. The blower did ok heating
the car. The blower died ( cage broke from shaft). Replaced motor. That motor
would spin backwards. Replaced with another blower. This one is spinning
correctly, but very low air flow at defrost, floor and vents. Drove it yesterday
after installing the new blower, and in 95 degree temps, I came out a nice
sweaty mess.
Hubby knows very little about the A/c ventilation portion of a car. I’m
competent in some mechanical work. Any ideas on where I could find the
actuator nearest the heater core? It seems as if something is blocking the
flow. Fan blowing well, all the actuators seem to be shifting from defrost, to
floor, to vents. Even recirculate control is working.
Any suggestions or directions are much appreciated.

there's a resistor pack near the fan that regulates speed , it may have gone bad by pure coincidence , who was replacing the motor ? your experience may differ
I replaced the blower. It works on all the speed settings. You can hear the speed of the blower increase and decrease. Just no air flow out anywhere.

you should hear the vents open/close when you make selections , switch or actuators may be bad
I hear the doors moving. And the airflow, as little as there is, will move through the positions. My question is this. Is there a blend door located at the coil / air handler box? It seems as if the air flow is blocked from reaching the vests.

maybe the intakes are blocked with leaves and shit , pop the hood and look near the windshield
Air intake is clear. I found online that there is an air intake door that closes when the car is off, that will block air flow if it doesn’t open. Any idea where it can be found?
This is a common problem with the last generation of Town Cars. However this is how they were made, and there is nothing you can do to fix this low air flow issue unfortunately. This is the reason I no longer drive a TC today.

This may be two years too late, but since your blower is working and the vents switch correctly, the most common cause of your issue would be a dirty evaporator core. Since those cars have no cabin air filter, there is nothing to stop airborne dirt and debris from clogging your evaporator core. The buildup can get very bad after lots of miles or being driven extensively in dusty conditions. The fix would be to remove the blower motor, and soak the evaporator core with something like Simple Green or an a/c coil cleaner, then rinse it out. You can use something low pressure like a garden sprayer. For more pressure, or if your core is extremely dirty, you can use a garden hose if you block off the passage into the passenger compartment with a towel.
