Check the brake pedal switch, it might be too sensitive and needs to be adjusted, just like if your driving with cruise control on and you step on the brakes it kicks it off but light remains on.
If the brake lights aren't on at rest, then the switch is good, right?
My cruise control comes on when I set it but then turns off but the cruise control light still remains on as though it was still in cruise control ...
