Problem with my car

My 96 Grand Marquis ran hot one time and
someone was telling that my car is not getting no
compression into it what can that problem be and
its turning over but not starting up and my neg
battery cable get real hot what do that mean can
anyone help me out here

No compression = blown head gasket or hole in piston or bad piston rings. (most likely blown head gasket, that could also cause overheating). Hot neg battery terminal = something is shorting out (cable, starter, alternator - just google "hot battery terminal).
