Alternator swap

I just put a new alternator and new
battery on my 03 grand marquis but
my battery light stays on,so I just
found out that the alternator is for a
96 grand marquis. So I was wondering
could I put like a 05 grand marquis
alternator on my 03 grand marquis..
can anyone help me please and thank
you very much...

I checked the part numbers on www.tascaparts.com on the 03 and the 05 and they are NOT the same. Not sure what the difference is but I don't think it will work correctly. A genuine Ford / Mercury rebuilt alternator from Tasca is $111.00 plus shipping.

Somewhere in those years they started controlling the alternator's voltage regulator via the ECU, but not sure which years.
