Starter
The starter went out on my dads Montero
and since we have takin it off and bought a
new starter we put it on hooked it all back up
started it it starts just great but the starter
bindix sounds like it's stuck out and it's
touching the fly wheel. Dad said either it was
the wrong starter or a bad starter. So we
went and got another one it was made
diffrent and it was better but it's still
touching the fly wheel and making the
grinding noise. So my dad asked me to look
it up and do whatever I had to do to figure it
out and yalls the first one I came to. He's
woundering if he needs to put some shims
in the starter or go buy another diffrent
made starter? Its the starter for are Montero
they have been some how diffrent from the
one we took off tho. Message me back asap

I am in the same boat with a 2002 montero. New starter from Advance Auto did the same thing (only made it 20 miles) also the one from Orielys. Napa said there are two different starters and said there are two different motors even though it only shows one option on other websites. The more expensive napa one fixed someone else's. I'm going to give it try after the weekend.
Just went through same thing got 3 different starters. Got one for a Montero sport instead of a montero shorter bendix worked perfectly.
Which part number? Or which one did you buy? I am having the same issue
Wat I want to know is that has anyone fixed the grinding problem from the new starters being shimmed
Has ANYONE had success fixing problem with shims!!! Would love to know this plz reply , thank you
