Sourcing door latch for 1994 Cutlass Supreme Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Looking for a replacement driver’s side door latch for a two-door 1994
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible but not having any luck. Can anyone
suggest how I might find one? Are there other years or body styles that would
use the same latch? I’m a bit of a newbie here.
Thanks!

Are you talking about the exterior door handle assembly that likes to break, or the actual door latch assembly that fits in the door jamb? The exterior handle assembly is readily available from Dorman and most auto parts stores can bring one in for you. I got mine in a couple of days. If its the latch assembly, they may be available too, but should also not be too hard to find at an auto wrecker. I'm sure the 2 door sedan one would fit and probably the four door one too. Kijiji and your local buy and sell might also be good sources. Find someone parting one out. It's pretty rare for that part to fail so I wouldn't be scared of a used one. The outside handle on the other hand needs to be a new one. The used ones are always already cracking and are ready to break.
Thanks munron. It is the actual door latch assembly in the door jamb. There seems to be a broken spring such that once the door is opened, a small metal piece needs to be flipped back by hand before you can close the door again. Not a big deal, but would be nice to get it fixed at some point.
I hear you. I've fixed up a bunch of little things like that on my convertible over the years and its much nicer to drive now. Mine is identical to yours. Make sure your latch is clean and properly lubricated. Might just be something gummed up and sticking??
