just bought car, first day i got it from someone it ran fine, the engine light is
on but that can be something simple. main problem is, the car died on me
and when someone jumped me they said it was the battery so i bought a
new battery but it still is in the red on the battery gage. if i turn air or radio
on it starts going down so i turn it off and it goes up back to normal. at night
it died when i turned on my headlights, or when i start it it will start up but
die in a few seconds.. brand new battery. any ideas?????

Could be bad wiring. Have your charging system tested first before you spend money on random parts hoping it will fix the problem like you did with the battery. I agree its likely the alternator but you need to be sure first. You'll find paying for the alternator is the easy part. Changing it it a four to six hour job on those cars so you don't want to do it for nothing. ALSO check your signal light flasher under the dash. Mine was crushed by the metal holder and even though the signal lights still worked, it seemed to cause a slight electrical draw that haunted me for a couple of years. Once I put a new one in all my troubles were over and life has been good ever since. Results may vary.
