Coolant leak

Asked by Kyle Oct 28, 2018 at 07:08 PM about the 1999 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: General

I have a coolant leak on my pontiac Grand
Am. I checked the hoses from the reservoir
and the radiator but I can’t see where it could
be leaking from those. Looking underneath it
looks like it dripped down the front part of
the trans pan and is dripping from there. Any
other spots it could be leaking from? Or is
there a hidden hose somewhere?

Did you check the hoses to the heater box mounted on the passenger side of the firewall? Coolant circulates through there to provide heat for the car and there is a hose going in and one coming out. Both are towards the rear of the engine and, if leaking, would show around where you saw the fluid dripping.

Also, remember that condensate from the AC system also drips down in that same area. If the liquid is a little slick it is coolant and needs to be corrected. If it is just water, it is condensate and normal.
