where is the rear seal located

The rear seal is the seal around the back of the crankshaft. It is located between the engine and transmission. Some can be fixed by removing the engine oil pan and rear main bearing cap. It is usually a pretty big (and dirty) job.
If the seal is a 1 piece seal replacing it will require removal of the transmission and the flexplate. Most real seals now days are 1 piece.
