Low Coolant
Asked by Hubbard31 Feb 08, 2016 at 09:20 AM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Every time I put coolant in my 2001
Pontiac Grand Am the "low coolant" light
still comes on and the car starts to
overheat. I don't see any coolant on the
ground so I don't know what the problem
could be.

Check to make sure you do not have air trapped in system. When cold add coolant while engine runs. I am not a car guy but this helped me with same problem.
How do you check to make sure air isn't trapped in the system?
Sorry I am not the car guy. I just know this happens and I just slowly added the coolant while engine ran. Cold in the morning.
Okay. Thank you I will try that and see if it works. I was thinking I might have a leak somewhere because I have to keep buying coolant to put in the car because it keeps getting low.
This happened to me and it was the water pump going out.
