Maybe your engine blew out the rear main seal or it has a hole in the engine block.

Did you check to see if the old oil filter gasket was stuck to the engine when removing the filter? Sometimes if you don't lube them when installing they will stick to the oil filter boss. Then when installing new filter you have 2 gaskets in place and oil pressure will easily blow out the old gasket causing a rather large oil leak. Also did you check to see if you re-installed the oil pan drain plug?

I smell gasoline in my Pontiac AM 2002. The smell seems to be coming from the back side. I have no idea. Please help me explain what is going on?!
