I have a 2002 Pontiac grand am and the heater blower speeds number 1 and 2 don't work at all. I've read that other people having this problem are having other problems like the defrost doesn't work etc, but mine is only the speeds 1 and 2. Anybody know what could be wrong?

its most likely the switch. if you didnt have power or ground speeds 3 and 4 wouldnt work either. If the blower resistor was bad it would only work on speed 4. Im not super familiar with the electrical layout on those cars but if it works like most it would be the switch.

It's not the switch. It's the resister that's in the duct work under the glove box. Speeds 1-4 are on one fuse located in the passenger side fuse box. Those speeds are regulated by the resister. Speed 5 is full voltage and has it's own fuse in the engine bay fuse box. Go to GAOwnersClub.com for detailed instructions for the replacement of the resister. Plan on oiling the blower motor bushings while you're at it.

Thanks Daniel, it is a common GA problem. It's real handy to have a 1/4" drive socket set with a universal joint to get at that back mounting screw. Some people leave it out.
