if the head gasket wasn't bad before then driving it hot till it shuts down will do it in , what does the exhaust look like ,look under the oil fill cap what do you see ?
Check that your radiator cap is releasing at the proper pressure. No pressure is held in the reservoir, just coolant that has already expanded beyond the capacity of the cooling system. When cool, the coolant returns to the radiator. You have already proven the thermostat is OK by the fact that you have replaced it 5 times with no effect. Time to look elsewhere. Could be that your water pump has failed, your system has a blockage somewhere, or it is over or under filled.
