Wheels/CV axle

Vibrations that occur when driving are caused by rotating parts, so it could be a CV axle, or wheel bearing. A 'clanking' noise from moving steering wheel side-to-side while stationary can be steering linkages (tie rods, drag link assembly, pitman arm). Try to isolate the sounds, maybe drive to a large open parking lot and steer all the way to the left or right in a tight circle, see if you get and crunching or popping noises from the CV joints. If you can jack the car up a little check the wheel bearings by pulling on top of tire or picking up on tire by hand (just google how to check for bad wheel bearings). The clanking noise and the vibrations may be separate symptoms of more than one thing wrong.

If I go to get a wheel alignment they should recognize the problem and pin point it right

Maybe. If it's something that's obvious like tie rod ends. CV axle? Not so much, as they won't be driving the car down the road. You can ask them to check, they can at least see if the boots are intact.
