3.1l to 3.8 swap

Question type: Car Customization
I have a 96 Grand Prix se coupe I want to start
working on. She's a good running car and the body
is in great condition. I have a vision for this one
since I laid eyes on it. I want to start with the
engine and get it out of the way before mine
decides to quit working. Was wondering if I could
swap it with a 99 3.8l v6 w SC and manual trans

There is no manual transmission option fro this car that I know of. The swap to a 3.8 s/c is possible but will need to include the heavy duty automatic as well as the two stage fuel system and the entire electrical system with ECU. Plan on months of work, tons of frustration and boat loads of money with marginal results.
Uggh. Ok. Literally any GM transverse manual transmission will work. I've seen people re-purpose the six speed ones from a G6 and stuff them behind ls1's and make it all fit in a Fiero. Drop the front subframe, pull the motor and transmission, get your series 2 SC motor, bolt to literally any 60 degree manual trans, install it back on the subframe and stuff it back under the car. Provided you have the ecu and engine harness from a donor vehicle and can adapt the g6 shift linkage I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just because it's different doesnt mean its impossible.
True. Anything is possible, but its a 23 year old GP/SE. Let's ponder that for a few minutes.
I just love the body style and she won't give up on me so I'm willing to invest in that!
In that case go for it. Big project but if done correctly it will be a fun car. Good luck.
