"Engine Swap?"

Asked by Rounulus Jul 06, 2019 at 12:33 AM about the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 Dr GTP Supercharged Coupe

Question type: General

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix with a lot of issue's
(alignment pull, CV axel going bad, leaking fluids like no
tomorrow) but I found a Special Edition 1998 Pontiac Grand
Prix Daytona (it's 148/1500) roller (not drivable, has no
motor in it ) they came with the GTP motors in them (S/C
3.8L) one of the previous owners did some upgrades to the
motor "The guy I got it from had a high compression,
cammed L36 with a 3.0 pullied gen III". Now comes my
question, with everything that's been done etc, and it being
a, basically, 98 GTP, would I be able to fit a "newer" GTP
(early 2000's) motor into it or would I have to go with the
older GTP (like out of a 98 or 99 GTP)?
