Bypassing dead fog light switch 98 grand prix
Asked by Aquamangm Sep 23, 2018 at 01:32 AM about the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr GT Sedan
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Foglight switch is dead, I don't want to remove
dash face to replace.
I want to just tap the foglights to headlights, so
fogs come on with headlights.
Anyone know how?
Thanks.

First check local law, I think fog lights are allowed on low beam only in some states, I'm not sure your headlight switch is heavy enough to support the added load, Why not put a toggle switch under the dash remember to fuse it if you do.
Why not just change the switch and save butchering up your wiring harness and possibly causing other problems? Taking the switch out of the dash is not that difficult. It's made to be serviced. Way easier than what you're suggesting.
I agree, however he didn't ask about that he asked for alternative ways. Just sayin
Yeah, I'm not going to mess with the wiring. As I see it, in order to get at the switch, I have to take off the entire dash surround. Which will probably break. If it's made to be serviced, is that the only procedure? I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.
I think they make a fog lite wiring kit, it has wires connecters and a switch, also instructions
Since you asked... removing the dash surround is not that difficult. First look for and remove any screws that might be there. Have a good light, sometimes the screws are well hidden. After that carefully pry and pull on the part and the friction type fasteners will release. You have to pull hard and sometimes it sounds like things are breaking when the clips release, but they're not and they can all be reused. I'm sure there are vids on u tube that will help guide you as well, and of course if you buy the repair kit mentioned above read whatever instructions come with it. Won't be a 5 minute job, but when you're done you'll have a car that still runs.
