My 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix trunk will not open

It's a really tough issue, there really is no clear way to get to the issue. you could try having someone pull up really hard while the key is turned or while you are pulling the release lever to see if it releases. If there is something jammed in there it's near impossible to get it out. You may need to call a locksmith or take it to the dealership. Can you get to the back of the trunk by folding down the rear seats to see if there is anything jammed in there?

Got it!! Half a bottle of WD40 and at least the key works. The remote will not work and the part in the trunk was tested and is fine. Electrical nightmare awaiting me? Any ideas??

I'm having the same issue with my 99 Grand Prix. The key will open the trunk, but both the remote and the trunk button in the glove box aren't working. I also noticed that my reverse lights aren't working, and both the trunk and reverse lights are controlled by the same fuse (#27 under the hood). I changed the fuse though and it didn't solve the problem. Any ideas? I'm thinking it's an electrical failure somewhere, possibly bad relay wires?

That is exactly where I am at now. I checked the trunk component and it is electrically fine. The fuse is also fine.

What did you find out (11 year ago) comment? Same issue here. Surprised my 1998 is still on the road TBH. Thanks,
