My car will not start/ignite. (Pontiac Grand Prix 2002)

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
For the last week or so my car hasn't
been able to start. I turn the key and
nothing happens except the normal
beeping sound you would hear upon
starting the vehicle. A few things
about this car. It previously had its
radiator hoses replaced. So I was
considering that it just over heated
and refuses to start. The check
engine light comes on frequently as
well.

How badly did it overheat...really hot for a while..or do you mean just a little hot for a short time? How does the oil look? How old is the battery? I know, lots of questions but it matters to get to the bottom of this
Changing hoses would not be part of the problem (I will assume the engine did not overheat to the point of seizing the engine). It is probably as simple as a drained battery or loose battery connection. A battery that has a low charge will still have enough power to energize the "beeping" you are hearing but not enough to crank the engine over. Likewise, a loose connection might be the cause of your eractic check engine light.
I don't want to jump to conclusions about it being hydro-locked. But if it overheated badly... could be
taver91 and myself were posting at the same time. But he has a very good point on all counts
My 02 Grand Prix had a fit starting ... found the crank sensor wire melted, Go to the ignition module and you will see 2 wires going down to the bottom of the engine .. they are very close to the exhaust and mine actually contacted it. You failed to say if you have fuel pressure or a spark
