Oil leak
Asked by rlarsen1259 Jul 04, 2017 at 09:43 AM about the 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2000 Grand Prix and one day my
boyfriend was driving it to work and got two
blocks away from work and the low oil light
came on so he checked it was completely out
of oil so he filled it back up to where it was
supposed to be and when he got home and
everything seems to be still be fine I went to go
take it for a drive in the oil light was on again
and it started knocking slightly the more I drove
it a little bit more it start knocking when I pulled
back in my driveway I had noticed there was a
big puddle of oil when he starts the car you can
see it dripping out the bottom and now I've
gotten even worse it just like squirt up he says
it looks like a little round thing with two screws
that it's leaking out of what could this possibly
be

I will when I get off work ..and no we not driving it ...someone told us it could be the sending unit
Ahh ... How far did u drive it with no oil? Driving a car with no oil is akin to a prostate examination using sand as a glove lubricant

Not for sure he checked it as soon as the oil light came on but he just the oil about a month ago and no leak nothing hasn't been knocking or anything
Your engine is probably OK, but DO NOT run it again without oil in it or that will be the end of your car.
I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix gt 3.8L and I can't find it where the oil leak at it's above my sub frame some where
Those can be tough to find. Mine does the same thing. Have a dealer check your car for recalls. Mine's been recalled twice to address the problem those motors have with leaky valve covers. Even after the recalls mine still leaks. Not sure from where. Not enough to be a problem other than things being messy on the underside of the car. I just ignore it. You might have to as well unless its leaving puddles under the car.
I got a 98 Grand Prix 3.1 l change valve covers in the head gaskets and it's leaking oil right above the starter like water coming out of a faucet
Is there an oil pressure sending unit back there somewhere? Back in the day they used to fail and sometimes leak quite profusely. Just a thought.

2004 3.8 gp runs good when cold...when hot it hesitates...also leaking oil think lifters do not work when oil is hot?
