Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
sometimes when I start the car the ignition wants
to stay in the start position until I manually back
off it to the run position. I have replaced the key
lock cylinder a few years ago so I don't think that's
the issue nor do I think anything else could be the
issue so would this part -SKU:26057170 "Lock
Housing, Case, Ignition Housing" Be the issue for
the key not springing back to run position from the
start position when I start my car please tell me?
PS if you think it's the newer lock cylinder causing
this new problem then I'll buy one of those again.
But the reason I replaced it a few years ago was I
thought it was an issue but it turned out it wasn't it
was the safety shifter interlock sensor that I had to
replace not the ignition cylinder.

The lock cylinder is spring actuated. Take it apart, find the spring and lubricate it with a light machine oil.

Hi and thank you very much for your reply, Okay by taking it apart won't all the individual digits come out and they're really hard to replace so might as well just replace the whole unit what do you think? And thanks very much you're pretty sure it's a lock cylinder causing this issue then huh?

Take the unit out of the steering column but, before you take it apart, try to lubricate it on your work bench. I know of no other reason for it to stick. Good luck.

I hear you, the only thing is I checked into this online and somebody was saying that the lock cylinder engages a module that it fits into the lock cylinder fits into a module that has is spring loaded and then it goes to a wiring harness under the dash so I guess at this point since I have the lock cylinder already delivered I'll install it see if that does it if not I'm going to have to replace the spring loaded module thing that the lock cylinder fits into but thank you for your help appreciate it.
