universal electric fuel pump

My fuel pump went out so for TEMPORARY (since my car is stuck out
of town and I'm broke) I got a universal electric fuel pump. I hooked it
up and charged the battery to the car but when I connect the battery
cables the fuel pump runs ans won't stop. Why and how do I fix it

If this an inline fuel pump? How are you wiring it in? Are you connecting to the existing fuel pump's harness? If you wired it direct, then of course it will just run and run, Needs to be part of the fuel pump's existing circuit. Not a fan of universal in-line pumps as they are usually just problematic, and you still have the old pump in the tank restricting the fuel line (most require the removal of the old pump). I think this is a case of a short-cut taking longer and costing more than doing it right the first time.
It says its for carburetor. Mine is fuel injected. Ugh the guy at auto zone said it depended on the fuel pressure so it should work but I can't get it to stop running when the battery is connected or to start my car
Do you mean you it wont turn off when engine is not running? Also check the universal fuel pumps fuel pressure rating - most are 10 to 15psi, well below the 50psi minimum your car needs.
