Heater core Problems?

I have a 2002 pantiac grand prix. Currently it has no heat. the car reads the
temp just fine so I don't think its the thermometer. The heater core hoses
are both warm but not hot. I wasn't sure what that meant so I started to
take apart the dash to see if the diverter door was moving. I didn't fully get
to the door but i saw the rod its attaches to spin while operating the
controls. I figured is just has to be flushed. I don't have a working garden
hose right now (its frozen) but I tried to just gravity feed. the water went
nowhere. Even when I tried to blow it in. I heard about using a air
compressor but that seems foolish.

First: It does sounds like its just has a bad clog, right?
Second: Do you need the pressure from a garden hose?
Third: Is an air compressor stupid?

engine 3.8 l v6 gt gtp. Do i need the garden hose pressure? I tried to just gravity feed water into it and it would go.

"Take the hose off the outlet of the heater core, and use a temp very long one to return to the radiator (cap off) and see the flow." and just run it like that? no over heating problems.
