won't start with key(not always) everything else works/starts with remote

Asked by veevee12 Dec 27, 2015 at 09:33 AM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Key will start car sometimes, other times it will not.  There is no sound at all but lights, heater, etc. still work.  Car will start with remote starter most of the time.

This sounds like an ignition switch that may be the problem.

Does your key have a resistor chip in the blade (black plastic insert with a metal strip on both sides)? It will prevent the car from starting if not making contact in the ignition switch. Try a spare key and see if it works better.
