what happens if you put power steering fluid in your transmission on a 2004 grand prix

Asked by Disturbed Apr 24, 2012 at 11:44 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I think my dad accidentally put the power steering fluid in the transmission, and discovered his error after it started over flowing, can this be fixed, or will I need a new transmission? I think I heard him say it is not shifting gears right now. Please help...

Back in the day you could interchange power steering fluid with tranny fluid. Times have changed and so have trannys. Yes flush out the system might want to take it to a place that has a tranny flush machine. Then see if problem persists.

change the fluid and filter , it really shouldn't cause any damage since both are hydraulic fluids.
