Grand Prix Engine swap

Well it is true that from 04 to 08 engines can be changed as long as you swap the same engine, for example 3800 naturally aspirated can only go to another 3800 naturally aspirated. but N/A 3800 can't go to a supercharged 3800 or vice versa. you can do this but it will take a lot of money and will include a wiring harness and computer transfer also. I don't think the engine you want is turbo charged it should be supercharged. If it is turbo charged then you are going to have some difficulty getting things to run correctly in your car. The totaled car would have to have been heavily modified and done all kinds of things to be converted to supercharged to turbo. If it is turbo hopefully you know how to do a lot of work on cars. Hope you get your car fixed. 3800 are really good engines.

An '05 GP base is not worth very much even if it runs. With a bad engine and transmission its worthless. Unless you are just looking for a project because you like working on cars its time for this one to go to the wreckers and buy one that runs. There are lots of nice ones around for not a lot of money. If you want the performance of a GTP then buy a GTP, don't try to make one.

would a trans and motor of a 2003 gtp fit in a 2001 gtp? need answers

It would appear that the same series of 3.8 was used in both cars so swapping them should be no problem. It's possible you may need the electronics from the donor car as well so be sure to have those parts available in case they are needed. Remember that an old Grand Prix, even a GTP is not worth very much so don't get too carried away spending money on an old car unless you're really in love with it. There are still plenty of them around in good shape that can be purchased whole and ready to drive for about the same price you will pay to do an engine swap. Of course if the swap can be done without a labor cost, it may be more worth while.
